www.mandarintools.com offers free online Chinese tools, including a very good Chinese character dictionary, searchable by Pinyin, Big5 (traditional characters), GB (simplified characters), or English.

 

www.zhongwen.com (also free) offers a good English/Chinese dictionary, which shows relationship trees of Chinese characters.

www.asianhorizons.co.uk/chinese-phrases allows you to listen to the pronunciation of a number of useful words and phrases in Mandarin Chinese.

 

China Daily is the largest English-language newspaper in China. Christopher Deal was featured in an article in 2007 (click here to access a copy of the article).

This is a wonderful application book because it applies knowledge of Chinese and Western culture with specific examples. It is concise and easy to read. It is available through amazon.com here:

Yam is a very good Chinese search engine in Taiwan. It also offers searches in English. Just look for the "English" button.

 

Taipei Times Online is a free daily online newspaper with useful and interesting information about Taiwan, China, and other parts of the world.
